Darwin’s Piano Bar 2/26/18

I played on 6th street in Austin, TX, with Mikey Gammon on a fun Monday night! We nailed some great versions of Beatles, Steely Dan, and of course, Meghan Trainor. Thanks to the attentive room for bringing up so many great requests tonight!

Moonshine & Ale 2/24/18

So there I was in New Braunfels, TX, with David Lee and Heather Ray when everyone in the club decided to sing and dance to every tune. I use the term “dance” loosely because after the first crowd-surfing stunt by a bachelor worked, the second time ended with what I can only assume was a possible concussion. He did jump back to his feet and tell everyone he was fine while wearing a tuxedo vest which was ripped in half during his fail. Another guy couldn’t stop showing his affection for our stage. The women who danced were much better dancers than the men who flailed, but that’s par for the course. Heather and Dave were fantastic to work with, and they kept everyone on their feet. The crowd was energetic, to say the least, and everyone left happy and alive. Whew.

Moonshine & Ale 2/23/18

Michael Carrandi and I shared the stage in New Braunfels, TX, tonight. We took requests from the crowd, as we always do, and played a huge variety of tunes. Michael is a good performer, and I had fun swapping between piano and drums with him. I’ll return tomorrow for more fun at Moonshine & Ale!

Moonshine & Ale 2/22/18

Live Band Karaoke took place tonight in New Braunfels, TX, and I played bass on my keytar while Andrae Blissett drummed and Pancho Garza played guitar. Those two are some fine musicians, and it was a fun time performing with them again! Lots of people sang lots of tunes while we backed them up. Not a bad crowd at all for a cold and rainy late February night!

The White Horse 2/19/18

Swing Time Sextet invited me to join them again in Austin, Texas, tonight. Nothing beats a little Western swing on a rainy Monday night! We started our set at midnight with Candler Wilkinson on guitar, A.J. Bihn on sax, Kyle Kline on bass, Sean Ziegler on pedal steel, and Chris Wallis on drums (and I was on piano). Some folks danced and generally enjoyed themselves while I enjoyed playing tunes with the band. I hope I get a chance to play with these guys again in the near future!

We had a really good crowd! They were super-involved. We brought lots of people up to dance. John and Amy were amazing! I really enjoyed performing with them again tonight. The hits just kept coming all night long. Woot!

Darwin’s Pub 2/14/18

Happy Valentine’s Day! I performed tonight in Austin, Texas, with Mikey Gammon. We celebrated a couple of anniversaries in the crowd, took random requests from everyone. My favorite love song of the night had to have been, “Rubber Duckie”. Yep.

Evangeline Cafe 2/13/18

Lesse le bon temps rouler! Our sixth annual Mardi Gras performance in Austin, Texas, was tons of fun, as it always has been in the past! Before taking the stage, I was honored to be named Mardi Gras King and given a trophy, which I will truly cherish. Musically, we switched things up a bit tonight and had the multi-talented Kevin Humphrey on guitar (instead of bass) which opened up the bass chair for our new friend, Curtis Sigurd. It was Curtis’ first gig with us tonight, but it sounded like we’d been together for years. His upright bass locked perfectly with the super-funky Chris Wallis on drums. Every time I have a chance to play with talented fellas like these, I feel a deep appreciation for where music has lead me in life. Also, I’d like to say a big thanks to my wife for taking pictures of the band. I wish I could’ve hung out a bit more with her tonight, but it was great to see her at the show. Happy Mardi Gras everyone!

The White Horse 2/12/18

I played with Swing Time Sextet tonight in Austin, Texas, tonight. This was my first show with these fellas, and I had a great time. Candler Wilkinson on guitar, A.J. Bihn on sax, Kyle Kline on bass, Sean Ziegler on pedal steel, and my buddy Chris Wallis rounded out the band on drums as we played though a bunch of swing tunes while the crowd two-stepped the evening away. This group plays some solid music, and I will join up with them next Monday for some more fun!

Moonshine & Ale 2/10/18

I met two great players tonight on stage in New Braunfels, TX! Shawn Grindle and LĂ©ana Courtney are a couple of traveling players from California who I had the pleasure of gigging with tonight, as the three of us teamed up to take requests from the crowd. The place was packed all evening long, and they were singing their hearts out for most of the night. I enjoyed my evening with a couple of new friends on stage! FTW: “What A Fool Believes”. Just sayin’.

Darwin’s Pub 2/9/18

I performed with Luis Balderas in Austin, TX, on 6th street tonight. We played a truly amazing variety of tunes from the crowd tonight, from Nine Inch Nails to ABBA. It’s been a while since I’ve done a show with Luis, and I had a good time with him! As I was getting ready to leave, and elderly gentleman approached me to say that he loved our show, and it was one of the best nights he’d had in recent memory. That kinda thing just makes you warm and fuzzy inside!

Rockey’s Piano Bar 2/8/18

I drove to Round Rock, TX, tonight to take some requests on piano while Mikey Gammon drummed. It was a relaxed gig with good folks hanging out with us on a cold night. We played quite a few songs together for the first time tonight including “Rosanna” and “Lay, Lady, Lay”, as well as a bunch more. Thanks for a good show, Round Rock!

Moonshine & Ale 2/3/18

I got a chance to perform with a couple of great musicians tonight in New Braunfels, TX. My buddy Roger Glenn was drumming, and fellow piano player Michael Carrandi and I swapped off all evening long. We had a great crowd with the ability to sing mostly on-key! Also, there were so many birthdays being celebrated that several times in the night, the entire crowd sang “happy birthday, dear February”.

Moonshine & Ale 2/2/18

Party goers in New Braunfels, TX, joined Heather Ray and I on stage tonight! I always enjoy performing with Heather. We do some great tunes together when share the stage. The crowd was on the quiet side at the beginning, but as the drinks began to flow through the crowd, so did The the flow of requests to the piano. I’ll be back tomorrow night for more madness at Moonshine & Ale!

Moonshine Drinkery 2/1/18

Our one-year anniversary in Victoria, TX, was met tonight with a humbling round of applause and cheers. Drummer Chris Wallis and I have enjoyed performing the first Thursday of each month over the past 12 months, and we’re looking forward to our move to First Fridays each month starting in March! We had a good show tonight, and the crowd was great to us, as usual. See you in Victoria again on Friday, March 2!
