The Springs 3/30/19

Tonight’s show, we represented NY/NY Dueling Pianos in Magnolia, TX, for the wedding of Mr and Mrs. Jeffrey and Larisa Canlas! Chris Wallis played drums and Gray Gregson was my dueling piano partner. It was a very religious event, with a few special songs we helped out with before launching into our request show. Just a couple of songs in, and the dance floor filled up. A 14 year old relative of the bride named Daniel even joined me on piano for a couple of songs, much to the crowd’s delight. The gig went fine, and the people love to party! Congrats to the newlyweds!

Moonshine Drinkery 3/29/19

On our way to Victoria, Texas, Chris Wallis and I stopped at Buc-ee’s. On our way inside, a guy in a truck slowed down to politely tell us that we looked like a Blues Brothers cover band. I guess we just exude that musician vibe. We started our show to a roomful of women who were ready to dance and enjoy life. The women loved us! Chris and I laughed pretty much all night long. Life is good.

The White Horse 3/28/19

The Governors rocked Austin, TX, tonight! I played my Nord, which was icing on the cake for me. I live that keyboard, and it goes great with The Governors vibe. The band really was on top of everything tonight. We played the late slot (midnight-1:45am) and we kept the dancers on the floor all night. I look forward to the next show with them!

Darwin’s Pub 3/26/19

I played a Tuesday night gig in Austin, Texas, with drummer Joe Resnick. I had a somewhat small crowd until about 10:30 PM. Then, out of nowhere, the bar filled up! Joe is such a solid musician, and I always enjoy performing with him. Afterwords, we hung out in the club and talked with a fellow piano player (Danny Smith) who came in at the tail end of our show.

The Lodge At Cypress Falls 3/25/19

Bill Ritter joined me in Wimberley, TX, tonight to play a bunch of tunes for the people. We haven’t done a duo gig in quite a while together, so it was a bunch of fun to do one again with him! I also live-streamed the event on Facebook, so if you wanna hear what we did, head over to the DanHolmesGroup page and take a listen! I miss gigging with Bill. He’s great.

Moonshine & Ale 3/23/19

We had a packed house in New Braunfels, TX, tonight. Joe, Tommy and I played bunches of requests from 8:30p-1a. My buddy, Bill, came out to watch the show with my wife, so on break, I was able to sit and hang out, which I loved being able to do! Fun, fun!

Moonshine Drinkery 3/22/19

We were making each other laugh so much tonight in Victoria, TX! The crowd was loving our show, and they were laughing right along with all of our bizarre antics. Our very special guest from Indiana, Bill Ritter, joined us tonight on bass, and he was phenomenal. Chris Wallis and Bill lock in perfectly together as a rhythm section. Heather Ray joined me for a bunch of songs throughout the evening, and it’s always a treat to sing with her. Trombone should always be played in “Sweet Caroline”. That is all.

Moonshine & Ale 3/21/19

We got serious about Live Band Karaoke tonight in New Braunfels, TX, with guest bassist, Bill Ritter! Jay played guitar and Andrae drummed, and I had a blast performing with them all. This was Bill’s first time playing with us, and he did great! I miss gigging with him. Andrae and Jay sounded as good as always, and the people had fun singing with us.

Darwin’s Pub 3/18/19

Joe Resnick and I performed in Austin on 6th Street tonight. We had a better night than expected for a Monday-after-SXSW show. The people hung around all evening and didn’t want us to quit.
But we eventually did.

Bernhardt Winery 3/17/19

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Heather Ray and I performed in Plantersville, Texas, representing Felix and Fingers dueling pianos tonight. It was a really fun show, and the crowd was easily one of the most involved that I’ve played to in a long time. Heather is always awesome to perform with, and tonight we were making each other laugh through the entire show. We did some crazy acrobatics with our harmonicas during the song “Piano Man”.

At the end, we got a standing ovation from the crowd, and we were liked by the resident winery dog, Jonesey.

Anytime a dog likes me, I consider the show a success.

Linda’s Event Center 3/15/19

Our show tonight went great! Songs were requested, beards were shaved, and guest singers all happened to raise money for a charity connected to the local hospital.

This has been one of the longest days I’ve had in recent memory. After getting to bed at 2am from Thursday night’s show, my alarm went off at 7:30am to make sure I was in the car by 8am with Gray Gregson, heading to Tulia, Texas. Seven hours into our eight hour trip, with no warning, my sunroof exploded. I quickly taped it up best I could and then we headed to the venue. From 4:30pm-6:30pm, we set up in the round for our  show (representing NY/NY dueling pianos). We got some dinner, then headed back to the venue to play (what was supposed to be) a two-hour show. They liked us so much, they had us play an extra two hours before tearing down at midnight. By the time we got on the road again, it was 1:15am. Our hotel is in Sweetwater, and we should arrive by 4:15am, when I plan on collapsing.

Moonshine & Ale 3/14/19

We had quite a few good singers tonight in New Braunfels, Texas, for live band karaoke. Andrae, Pancho, and I locked in for several songs that I don’t remember ever being requested before! I quickly had to wrap things up at the end of the night because at 8 AM, I’m heading on the road to play up in the panhandle. I got to get some sleep!

Darwin’s Pub 3/12/19

SXSW is happening in Austin, Texas, and I performed on 6th Street with Joe Resnick tonight! There were lots of excited people hanging out with us. We had them from all around the world, including Tokyo, Seoul, Brazil, Canada and College Station. I live-streamed the show to the All Request Piano page on Facebook, if you wanna go check it out!

The Lodge At Cypress Falls 3/11/19

Ian Lee, Curtis Sigurd, Andrae Blissett and I played to a swing dancin’ crowd in Wimberley, TX, tonight from 5p-7p. These are some talented fellas, and I enjoyed the evening with them. Ian’s buddy, Alex, joined us at one point to play a couple tunes on clarinet, which was fun. This was the first night this particular line-up has worked together, and I hope we get to do it again sometime!

Moonshine Drinkery 3/9/19

I laughed pretty much all night in Victoria, Texas, tonight with Chris Wallis and Heather Ray. Christine Barton-Holmes took a bunch of pictures of us as we took requests from the crowd and made each other laugh. My favorite was when someone asked Heather to play “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” and I added a keytar-trombone solo. Perfection.

Moonshine Drinkery 3/8/19

My wife, Christine, came out and took photos at the show in Victoria, TX, tonight, where I took requests with Heather Ray. It was a little slow, but we still mixed it up all night by swapping instruments and making folks sing random tunes. I not only broke out the keytar tonight, but also the acoustic for a tune. I decided to try to give us a beat while I was at it which nearly made my brain explode. I had fun with Heather, and I love the photos Christine took!
