I asked her how I would know if it was her if another girl in a whellchair came in, and she said, "I'm the cute one." Cool.

Static Shack 8/29/08

We recorded for a few hours for some upcoming Bob & Tom stuff at the Static Shack this afternoon. I love their piano...it's the one I used on my song, "Superstore".

Tonight at Rum Runners in South Bend, Indiana, Brendon, John and I played for a room full of freshly-back-to-college kids, who took some time to win over. The macho guys were wooing the cute girls, old friends were catching up on what they did over the summer, and new classmates were discussing how "This course is gonna suck". After they had a few drinks, then they realized, "Hey, look! A dueling piano show!" It was fun.

Sorry, it was a little slow, so I don't have any news to report, so I figured, hey, pump up Bill's skillz.

Art Street 08/24/08

Green Bay, WI is about six-and-a-half hours away from Indianapolis. We didn't get home from the gig in Modoc until about 2:30am, and we were back on the road, on our way to Green Bay by 7:00am. We set up and played for a very appreciative crowd. By the time we finished, the sun was almost gone. We got back in the car and drove straight home, with a forty-five minute delay in Chicago due to traffic. I finally fell back into bed at about 3:30am

Thanks goes out to Lloyde for taking some pics of the band!

The corn was 10' tall all around us, which, when the sun went down, felt like a horror movie. The guys were sounding great, and Duke was rocking. The crowd was insane, dancing and flashing us and having parts of them fall off...I'll tell you about it sometime if you ask me.

Half Price Books 8/23/08

Nothing says party like a giant worm!!! We came back for day two of the grand opening festivities at Half Price books, again from noon to 2:00pm today. It was much busier than yesterday. The staff even brought out some chairs for people to sit and watch us. Thanks to all of our fans who came out to cheer us on!

Bear Of The Blue River Festival 08/22/08

Shelbyville, Indiana had us backing up Duke Tumatoe for its summer fest. We were on a metal & wood stage, outside, facing the sun. I was a little cooked by the time we finished. The crowd was odd. Gary Puckett was the headliner, so half of the people were Gary Puckett fans, and were politely waiting for our portion of the show to end, while the other half were Duke fans, who left as soon as Gary started. There has never been a larger contrast than Tumatoe-Puckett.

Half Price Books 8/22/08

A brand new Half Price Books is open in Avon, IN, and Bill and I performed from noon to 2:00p for its grand opening! A bunch of the adults were afraid to make eye contact, but the kids would all stop and dance! Ah, the innocence of youth...

Zydeco's 8/21/08

Bill Ritter and I perfomed for the good folks of Mooresville tonight. Deb took the first couple of pictures shown here, and Bill took the one over my head. The one that Deb took while she was bent ove with the camera upside down between her legs didn't come out too well, but the crowd enjoyed watching her take it.
Bill Looks So Tan... Above Dan

Terry (Deb's son) showed up and wanted to kiss me. I tackled him mid show, and then went back to playing our favorite New Orleans songs. Miss a little, miss a lot.

JCC Pool Party 8/17/08

It was a joy playing with Thomas Brinkley at the JCC! Brian and I were beat from the gig on Saturday, but Thomas kept our spirits high.

Brian and I got home from our Galene, IL gig after 6:30am, and we were ready for the show at the JCC by 11:00am. The crowd was a little smaller than last time, mostly due to it being cooler than it's been in a while. We'll be back in a couple of weeks for another show at the pool!

Eagle Ridge Spa 8/16/08

Bill Ritter was out of town this week, so Jack Joseph joined Duke, Brian and myself for a show in Galena, Illinois. The location was great, and the lawn was full. Jack did a great job for his first Duke gig. The only bad thing about the show was how far away from home it was. Six-and-a-half hours there, set up, played a three hour show, and then six-and-a-half hours home to get about three hours of sleep before tommorrows gig.

Howl At The Moon 8/15/08

Jack Joseph, Brian Yarde and I played a band set at Howl tonight to a fairly packed house. The people were digging what we played and we couldn't stop the requests from flooding the stage! GenCon was in town, so after the show, Brian, Jack, my wife and I walked over to the mall to see some costumed fans.

Thanks to Christine Barton-Holmes for the shots of the band!

Howl At The Moon 8/14/08

After Zydeco's, I jumped in my car and headed to downtown Indy to duel at Howl. I joined up with Jeremy, Jay and Joe on stage. We slammed through a bunch of requests and made a bunch of people happy. Nuff said.

Zydeco's 8/14/08

Jack and I played in Mooresville last night to, at first, a very quiet crowd. I don't think any of the people who were there at the begining of the night had ever seen live music before. Here's a tip;applause is customary at the end of a performance. So we played a few tunes, realized the crowd just wanted to eat, and we took a break very early.

When we came back, the new tables knew how to respond, and a good time was had by all. They were smiling and talking and eating and laughing and singing and drinking and buying cd's and dancing and generally enjoying life. Thanks.

Cheeseburger and Tumatoe 8/9/08

Brian and Bill played golf before performing in Danville, IL. I went to see "Pineapple Express" with Duke, and came back to pick up the rhythm section after the movie. I found the two of them putting - missing - putting - missing - putting - missing on the 18th hole.

Neither one of them could make their shot Bill and Brian after a lousy game of golf

We then went straight to the gig, which was in a very nice park. People were thrilled to see Duke, and they even stayed through a breif rainstorm to watch the end of the show. Ben, the same soundman we had last night, was back to run sound and take photos for us again.

Gino's Place 8/8/08

Gino's was, how do I put this, less than crowded for our evening show. After we had just performed not more than two blocks away, we did another three hour show for 30 - 20 - 10 people. Not exactly the best night, but we still had a good time playing for the small, yet mighty, crowd.

Summer Sounds Concert Series 8/8/08

Brian, Bill and I backed up Duke in downtown Danville, IL, for an outdoor concert. A bunch of Duke's old fans came out, and they were very excited to hear the new band. We performed for a couple of hours, and then went straight to Gino's for our evening gig.

Thanks goes out to the soundman, Ben, for the photos.

Morty's 8/7/08

Blackberry Jam invited me to play a gig with them in Indianapolis at Morty's Comedy Club Jazz & Jokes Night. We ran through everything from "Mr. Magic" to "Chain of Fools". Jerry (drums) and Poncho (bass) were on fire, and things heated up even more when Cleve (sax) showed up to sit in. My thanks to Blackberry Jam for a fun night!

Zydeco's 8/6/09

This week, we brought our video cameras and filmed our first three songs as a test for some performance footage. I sold a few CD's, and people were generally happy to eat and listen to us. It was a fairly laid-back crowd, but they were into what we were doing. I was into Chef Carter's shrimp chowder. Mmmmmmmmm......

P.S. Vote for us (click here to vote) on the A-list! Remember, we're listed under "wedding bands".

Speedway United Methodist Church 8/6/08

Bill and I performed for about a half hour before the kids of Speedway United Methodis Church Childcare got up to perform a talent show for their parents. I played on a beautiful baby grand, which sounded great with Bill's electric upright bass.

Maybe I'll look into recording my next project there....

Zydeco's 8/3/08

Brunch!!! Zydeco's!!! New fans!!! A parade!?!

Yeah, we showed up in Mooresville today only to find "Temporary Police No Parking Order" signs everywhere. Those "Temporary Police" made it difficult for anyone to make it in for brunch, but Jackson made it!!!

Jackson, I believe, is two years old and our newest fan. He helped Bill and I raise the roof a little just before some Shriners throwing candy came down the street. We had fun with the few who made it in past the heritage parade and in to Zydeco's for some tasso pork medalions over grits. Yum!

Tonight, we performed in Chicago at a funky shipyard for deceased yachts. A bunch of people were there, but not many of them were paying attention. It was probably a good thing, because Duke was sick with a stomach virus. Bill, Brian and I played a half of a dozen songs by ourselves to give Duke a break in between sets.

Duke: The appropriate response is "What"?
People: You drink too much!
Duke: No, just say "What".
People: You drink too much!

We ended up playing longer than contracted, and we had a bunch of people tell us they really enjoyed the night. All but one guy, that is. He came up and asked if we were done, and when I told him yes, he said we should play more. I told him we were finished for the evening, and so he told me we "sucked" and we "don't deserve to play anywhere". Wow.

So, I can only guess he wanted us to play longer to see if we continued to "suck".

Howl At The Moon 8/01/08

Bill, Brian and I tore up the crowd in downtown Indy tonight! They were screaming and hollering for more before we were finished. I had about thirty requests come up for everything from "Midnight Train To Georgia" to "I'm Too Sexy". Thanks to the guys at the door for taking some pictures for us!

Zydeco's 7/31/08

The crowd at Zydeco's in Moorseville, IN, kicked major butt tonight! Everybody was singing and clapping while Bill and I ran through a bunch of tunes. We made some new fans from Cincinnati, and sold a bunch of CD's. Deb consumed some wine and we wished Mal safe a journey! She is moving to Mississippi. :-(

The jambalaya was awesome, as were the fried green tomatoes. Which brings me to a point; if you haven't voted yet for Zydeco's on the A-List, please take a minute and follow this link to vote for them!!! http://wrtv.cityvoter.com/signup?entry=55619
