We met Duke Tumatoe in Ft. Wayne tonight to play for a costume ball. Lots of cool costumes, including Duke's scary mask. It kinda makes him look like Tor Johnson.

Zydeco's 10/29/09
Bill Ritter and I decided to try to play tonight's show based on the chromatic scale. Our first song was in the key of C, our second was in the key of C#, our third was in D, and so on and so on.
The crowd didn't get it, but it made the night fun and challenging for us. We played to a happy audience, and made a few new fans!

Bob & Tom Show 10/28/09
Bob and Tom show was fun today. Duke had a couple of funny songs, and Tom questioned me about my upcoming trip to L.A. They also plugged our big halloween show at Zydeco's in Mooresville!
Mark Rohrman and I waited in the greenroom before the show started, and we snapped a shot.

Broussard's Restaurant 10/25/09
While walking around the French Quarter in New Orleans, I received a panicked call from Kevin O'Day at 6:45. He told me he hadn't heard from Walter, and wanted me to come fill in for him. So I rushed back to the hotel where my car was tied up in valet-land forever. By the time I made it to the gig, they had delayed starting for a half hour, by no fault of my own. Kevin made an announcement that Walter couldn't make it, and I was stepping in at the last minute. The crowd then applauded me as I was setting up!
I sat down, and realized that the reason they were so panicked was due to the fact that we weren't just playing the reception of a wedding, but the actual ceremony as well! I played the rest of the evening with Kevin and bassist Jack Cruz. I never did hear what happened to Walter...

St. Louis Hotel 10/24/09
We're in New Orleans in the French Quarter, and Bill Ritter and I had the great Kevin O'Day fill in on drums today for a wedding we performed music for at 1pm. The bride and groom held the ceremony in the same courtyard as the reception, so we needed to be set up by 9:30am. After they were pronounced husband and wife, we started up and played tons of New Orleans classics until 4pm. We packed up and left quickly, mostly due to another wedding which was about to use the same courtyard we performed in. Kevin O'Day had another wedding gig to get to a couple of blocks away with Walter Washington and Jack Cruz! Thanks Kevin for your skills!

D.B.A. 10/21/09
I love this bar on Frenchman St. in New Orleans! I had a chance to play with Walter "Wolfman" Washington tonight, and he always makes me happy. Great music and a fun club make everything all better in my world. Also sitting in with Walter was New Orleans living legend, Big Chief Alfred Doucette, who sang a couple of tunes with us. My thanks to the Roadmasters for letting me take the stage with them!

Clancy's 10/17/09
Duke, Bill, Joe and I performed with Don Stuck at this bar on the south side of Indianapolis. Smokey. Loud. Delayed start time. Wrong crowd. Odd stage set up.
Oh well. I head to New Orleans tomorrow morning, so it's all good.

Zydeco's 10/15/09
Bill and I did our thing at Zydeco's tonight. We even threw in a few new tunes from the forthcoming CD I'm currently working on. I think the song "Asylum" will be a new DHG standard. Maybe we'll play it at Howl on Friday...

Howl At The Moon 10/13/09
Tonight was good at Howl because people were bringing up TONS of requests, and I knew about 90% of them. Beatles, Elvis, Stones, CCR, Dire Straights, Stevie Wonder & Dr. John to name a few. There was a solid hour of people dancing! On a Tuesday night!!

County Line Orchards 10/11/09
Wow, it was cold today. We played to a great crowd, while bundled up to keep warm. It was in the low 40's, so I wore two pair of gloves, a hat and a scarf. Duke thought I looked like an old TV personality from the 60's named Marvin. I have no idea what he was talking about, but I played my best until I had a chance to warm up on the drive home. I hope the next time we play here, I won't have to dress like a mummy.

Garwood Orchards 10/10/09
We started our first of two gigs today in the orchard in LaPorte, IN. It was cold when we started (low 40's) and then the wind picked up. I just about froze to death. As soon as we finished performing, we grabbed a few pieces of stage gear and headed to New Buffalo for our second gig. We left my P.A. and trailer behind, and returned after our second gig to pack up from the first gig!
Harvest and Wine Fest 10/10/09
A big tent in New Buffalo, MI held a couple of heaters, a few hundred people and us. Jack Joseph filled in for Bill Ritter on bass tonight. The crowd was loving their wine, maybe a little to much. During our last song, someone bought the band glow necklaces, and they forced the poor woman who was selling them onto the stage, where she then just about took a header right back off of the stage. It was a fun show!

Starbucks 10/9/09
I performed a solo show tonight at the Starbucks near my house. I did it mainly to try out some new material on a Friday night to a bunch of strangers. Very low key show. Good coffee, though.

Ritz Charles 10/8/09
Bill Ritter, Duke Tumatoe and I performed as a trio tonight at a fund raiser for the Special Olympics. We were there mainly as background music for everyone as they walked around. It was a nice event, but it wasn't really a full on show. I hope they raised a bunch of money!

Bob & Tom Show 10/7/09
Bob and Tom were on their game today. Funny stuff! We played Duke's songs, then they asked us about any odd band names from groups we each used to perform with. Duke used to be with a band called "King Edward and the Gay Poppers". Mine wasn't nearly that good. I was in a band once called "Ida No".

County Line Orchard 10/4/09
I was able to get close to seven hours of sleep before this gig, so I actually wanted to play. Most of Joe Maddox's family joined us to cheer Joe on. His son took turns crying, then dancing all day long (he takes after his dad that way)! The orchard is fun. Outdoors, good smells, food & fun. We're coming back next week, too!
Our thanks to John Horvath of Alan Pro Audio for running sound. He has worked with us several times in the past couple years, and he always does a great job!

Indiana Live Casino 10/3/09
So we were able to get about three hours of sleep before we needed to head back to Shelbyville, IN, to the casino. We played four of the longest sets of my life to the weirdest dancers I've ever seen. One guy would not stop doing the splits and showing us his butt all night long. Adding insult to injury, the last thing I heard shouted after our last song was "PLAY SOME COUNTRY!"
We left in silence.
We left in silence.
Trine University 10/3/09
After the casino, at 2:00am, Bill Ritter and i jumped in my truck and drove to Angola, IN, three hours northeast of the casino. We arrived in the parking lot at 5:00am, and fell asleep in the truck until just before 9:00am. We then backed up to the theater doors and loaded in all of our stage gear, P.A. and lights for an 11:00am show.
We played to a couple of people until just before our first break, when the theater filled and a university official cut us off. We left a packed house so they could announce homecoming king and queen, then they had us come back on when all but twelve people left the theater. We played another hour, packed up, and headed home to catch a nap before we had to head back to the casino.

Howl At The Moon 10/2/09
Joe Maddox, Bill Ritter and I performed for a mostly docile crowd at Howl tonight. The night was overshadowed by Circle City Classic, which was taking place just a couple of blocks away. We played our best, and we hope the dueling guys had a happening night after us!
Indiana Live Casino 10/2/09
Our second gig of the evening found us back at the casino in Shelbyville, IN. The P.A. still had issues, but we worked around them. The highlight of the evening for me was when we finished our second set (of four), a young guy yelled out, "STEVIE RAY VAUGHN ENCORE!"
He rushed to the stage when he realized we weren't going to play for another twenty minutes to tell us why we should play "SRV". I explained to him that Duke only does a couple of cover songs, and they weren't Stevie Ray's tunes.
His response was, "EVEN METALLICA PLAYS COVERS!!!" Then he staggered away. Don't worry. I didn't understand it either.

Indiana Live Casino 10/1/09
Tonight was a bit frustrating because we were having problems getting the casino's sound system to work. First, only vocals would come out, then drums would overpower the mix without us changing anything. We finally tracked the problem down to a bad channel and a bad cable. We tried to involve the crowd, but on a Thursday in a casino, it's difficult getting anyone's attention. Better luck tomorrow night I hope.
