AJ's Ale House NB 5/30/13

It feels like a million years since I last played a show with Joe Resnick, but our set was as strong as ever. Bob Seeger ruled the request show, but plenty of other unusual songs were laid on the piano. Here's a small taste of what we played: White Room, Take On Me, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Take A Walk On The Wild Side, Faithfully, and the Imperial March. Crazy.

Superfly's 5/30/13

Paul Adams once again rocked the drums for the Gents at the record shop on San Marcos! Kevin, Troy, Jeremiah and I traded off vocals during our hour set, and we all had a good time. Never a dull moment, I'm now off to start my next show in New Braunfels.

Jack's Roadhouse 5/27/13

Happy Memorial Day! Kevin Humphrey, Chris Wallis, and I brought some music to the masses tonight in San Marcos, TX. Ian Lee was ill, so he stayed home. After the Spurs won the basketball game tonight, people hung around for a bit to dance, until they had to go home to get ready for another workday tomorrow. I still had fun with two very talented musicians; Chris and Kevin.

Bay City Country Club 5/25/13

Congratulations to the newlyweds, Derek and Lynsey Hafernick! Chris Wallis and I met in Bay City, Texas to perform at their reception tonight. Good food, nice surroundings, and a show-stopping fireworks display together with us playing live, and a DJ playing anytime we weren't made for a very enjoyable event for everyone involved. I'd like to personally thank the bride and groom for having us at their reception. Now, I'm headed back to San Marcos, while Chris is staying in Bay City so he can head to the beach tomorrow. Chris played great, so he deserves a day of waves and rays!

Cheatham Street 5/24/13

The Hill Country Gentlemen performed in San Marcos tonight to a good crowd! We were all getting a bit goofy before the show, but upon first note, it was funky business as usual. Paul Adams joined us on drums, and Kevin, Troy, Jeremiah & I enjoyed his flavor.

AJ's Ale House NB 5/23/13

End of the night found me outside AJ's in New Braunfels, reflecting on a whirlwind gig with Mikey Gammon. We didn't think it was going to be very busy, but before we were halfway through our first set, the bar was hopping! I spent last night at a Paul McCartney concert in Austin (where he played again tonight), so I had a bunch of people requesting Beatles and Wings tunes who couldn't make it to his show!

Superfly's 5/23/13

The Hill Country Gentlemen stormed the super-cool record store in San Marcos known as Superfly's again tonight, this time with super-drummer, Paul Adams. We played several new tunes, including versions of "My Girl, Josephine" and "Get Out Of My Life Woman". We'll be back next week to play more great tunes!

Jack's Roadhouse 5/20/13

Tonight at Jack's, we had a guest drummer, Dave Christianson, come play a few tunes, which gave Chris Wallis the rare opportunity to come out to the front of the stage to sing! I had a blast listening to Chris, Kevin and Ian all night long as we ran through some of our favorite tunes. Dave even sang one of his tunes when he sat in with us, which was fun to hear his vocals. Sorry, but no Billy Joel was played at this show.

AJ's Ale House MF 5/18/13

First, I would like to thank all of our regulars who came out to sing with Roger Glenn and me in Marble Falls tonight. Second, I'd like to thank those same people for sticking through all the bachelorette madness, as I'm sure they had a great time hanging out with us! I sincerely hope that she didn't hurt her self the first (or second) time she fell over the drums set. Roger was a pro in how he helped her up without missing a beat. Finally, I'd like to thank all of the people who came out to see us after the midget wrestling match was over. Crazy, crazy night.

Señor Buddy's 5/17/13

Nathan Hanners invited me to come perform a gig with him in Austin, TX tonight, along with Pat Whitefield and Chris Wallis. This restaurant has a big, outdoor stage in their beer garden, and that is where we played some serious rockin' blues tunes. Lots of people danced and enjoyed Nathan's tasty guitar licks. Before the night ended, the management was already asking us for our June availability, so it looks like we may be back sometime soon!

AJ's Ale House NB 5/16/13

For my second gig of the evening, Brad Evilsizer and I performed a request based piano show in New Braunfels, Texas. We played lots of tunes from the 70s tonight, right up until the point when we noticed through the big picture window behind the piano, across the street in front of a sports bar, a commotion had started. Within five minutes, there were at least 10 people just fighting on the sidewalk, with police everywhere. I'm just glad that AJ's has a much higher class of clientele than that!

Superfly's 5/16/13

The Hill Country Gentlemen were in full swing tonight at the San Marcos record store. Playing all the hits from their first CD, and a few new tunes, the good people of San Marcos had pleasant tunes forced down their ear canals to be wedged in their brains. Catchy tunes are like that sometimes.

Jack's Roadhouse 5/13/13

Mid-gig blog break!! It's 11:24pm in San Marcos, TX, and Ian Lee, Kevin Humphrey, Chris Wallis and I are on a quick break. So far, the gig is going great, with lots of fun tunes being played. Everyone needs to make it to Jack's to catch the second half of the show. Come on down!

AJ's Ale House NB 5/11/13

Brad Evilsizer played drums tonight in New Braunfels, Texas, while I took requests on the piano from the crowd. We had no less than eight birthdays in the house! We had four of them up on stage singing and dancing, with the crowd cheering them on, but the other four danced from their seats. Party on!

Jack's Roadhouse 5/10/13

The fantastic musicianship of Kevin Humphrey did not go unnoticed by Ian Lee and I tonight. I threw several new tunes at the guys tonight, and Chris Wallis, as always, sounded great as he played some funky-fresh beats on the drums, while Kevin and Ian jumped on the tunes like they had played them a million times. After the show, Ian and I discussed how Kevin just has a natural ability to hear and play music, and it showed tonight. Of course, Ian tore it up solo-wise every chance he got, too.

Superfly's 5/9/13

The Gents show in San Marcos tonight went great. Chris Wallis joined us on drums, and I decided to just play melodica all night. There was a good number of people in the record shop tonight, and they really seemed to enjoy the show! See you next week!

Jack's Roadhouse 5/6/13

Crazy night at Jack's in San Marcos, TX! The place was full of Spurs basketball fans before we got there, cheering for the game as it went into double overtime, and then as the Spurs won. While we were waiting for the game to end, from around the corner walks Steve Brunner, good friend and drummer from Indianapolis, who was in town for one night on a business trip to Texas State. We've joked for a while about doppelgängers Chris Wallis and Steve Brunner, and we finally got them in the same room at the same time! Steve sat in and sounded great, and he got a chance to hear the funky grooves of Chris Wallis, Kevin Humphrey (bass) and Ian Lee (guitar). The night went well, but as we were loading out, Ian's girlfriend (and good friend of the band) Beca, was hit in the eye as someone opened the front door while she was walking by. Cuts on your eyebrow are the worst for pain and blood! I wish her all the best and a speedy recovery, and I hope Steve has safe travels back to Indy tomorrow.

AJ's Ale House MF 5/4/13

May the 4th be with you! My day started off at a Comic Con in San Marcos (just for fun; I wasn't gigging) with lots of people in costume. Then, I headed north to meet up with Mikey Gammon in Marble Falls a bit early because, performing just before us, the songwriter Joe Ely was live on stage! We set up as soon as he tore down and began our request show. My favorite comment of the evening came from a gentleman who requested "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". After I finished it, he came up to the stage, looking like he could knock my block off if he wanted to, and said, "I'm the one who requested that song. I'm a Charlie Daniels aficionado, and I just want to say, that was beautiful." Then he smile and returned to his seat. I'm glad I played it well!

AJ's Ale House MF 5/3/13

There were pirates in Marble Falls tonight. They danced to "Sexy and I Know It". Yep. Just ask Vince Mejia. He was drumming (and sometimes Kazooing) for the show when the pirates took the stage. Not really "Arrrrrrgh" kinda pirates, but think more like "A Pirate Looks At 40". We had several different groups and individual people (including some of the pirates) who tipped us for "just being so entertaining", which was humbling. Thank you!!

AJ's Ale House NB 5/2/13

New Braunfels, TX is where my second show of the evening took place. Drummer Brad Evilsizer joined me on stage to play for a small, but mighty, crowd at the sing-along piano bar. The people were very kind to us, and they sang along as loudly as they could. Fun was had by all! Hope to see you at the next show!

Superfly's 5/2/13

My first gig of the evening was with The Hill Country Gentlemen at the San Marcos, Texas record shop known as Superfly's. Jeremiah, Troy, Kevin, and I played for about an hour while people shopped for cool LPs. This marks the first gig of a Thursday night residency at Superfly's throughout the summer.
