Moonshine & Ale 2/27/21

I played a show tonight in New Braunfels, Texas, with Anthony and Jay.  We had a good crowd, and Anthony did well covering for my partner Heather who wasn’t able to make it down tonight. I can’t remember the last time I played a show with Jay, and it was good to catch up with him a little after the show! Thanks to everyone for coming out, and I’ll see you again soon!

Rockey’s Piano Bar 2/26/21

I was joined on stage in Round Rock, TX, tonight by my drummer friend Roger Glenn. We were flooded with requests, and the bar asked us to play an extra half-hour at the end of the night. Roger and I had a good time together. We also had another great drummer in the house. Jason Corbiere came out and sat in for a couple songs. Some folks from New Orleans were in the crowd, and they were so happy when Jason and I were able to play “Big Chief” for them, and also when Roger and I played “Such A Night”.

Moonshine & Ale 2/25/21

Thursday night means Live Band Karaoke in New Braunfels, so I jumped on keys. The place was full of singers, and some of them teamed up for some songs. Pancho and Greg were there to round out the band, and we had lots of regulars join us. I’ll be back on Saturday for piano bar!

Quarantine Keys 2/24/21

Wow! My livestream went great tonight over on the QK page with several hundred comments and over 60 “shares”. I played a solid 2-hour show, and I was happily surprised when my partner Heather hopped on for a few to show some support. Everyone was super-cool and requested great stuff tonight. Tons of Beatles and Billy Joel, plus a bunch of random songs were requested. I’ll be back next Wednesday for more QK!

Belmont Village Senior Living 2/23/21

I joined up with Paul and Kenny from Gumbo YaYa for a trio show in Austin this afternoon. We played an hour of fun-filled Mardi Gras music for an appreciative crowd. We were supposed to do this show last Tuesday on actual Mardi Gras, but got snowed out in Texas! I’m glad they decided to reschedule and not cancel the show. It was good to play with a band again.

Live Stream 2/21/21

I didn’t plan to livestream tonight, but I was sitting at the piano and running through tunes so I figured I would! I had a bunch of friends join me, and it was like a goofy hang-out session. I did a cheating version of the cheating cheater song known as “Escape”, random Elton John, David Bowie, and even ventured into “We Are The World”. It was a fun night!

Rockin J Piano Bar 2/19/21

We took our show up to Cedar Park for a fun night of requests! We made each other laugh a ton tonight while playing everything from the Eagles to Snoop Dogg. We had three birthdays celebrating with us, so of course, we sang to each of them. At the end of the night, we got a standing ovation and an encore song which made us feel great. We also made some new fans! Heather is my perfect musical partner, and we’ll do some more traveling and plying next weekend together.

Moonshine & Ale 2/18/21

We unexpectedly had a gig in New Braunfels for Live Band Karaoke tonight! It was a welcomed distraction from a week of record-breaking snow storms and frozen temperatures in Texas. Heather has been trapped at our house for a week now, but I couldn’t have asked for a more welcomed roomie. Power outages and water restrictions made this week really difficult, so performing together reenergized us. I’m really fortunate to have a partner like Heather. It was good to perform with Pancho (guitar) and Ryan (drums), too!

Blake Street Sports Bar 2/13/21

We drove through some icy conditions tonight to get to our show in Columbus, TX, and we didn’t know if anyone else would brave the weather, but the show was sold out! Everyone was great to us, and we had lots of really nice comments about our show. We rocked through three solid hours of tunes before packing up and getting back on the highway in even worse conditions than we arrived in. Heather might be trapped at my house for a few days because of a rare Texas snowstorm.

Moonshine & Ale 2/12/21

After our livestream this afternoon, we spent a chunk of time working on a video for someone who paid us for a single-song video (we’ve done about 140 total so far), and had some dinner before heading to New Braunfels. It was really cold, so the crowd took a while to show up, but they eventually did! I love performing with Heather, and tonight was so much easier because we used our wireless in-ear monitors and mics foe the first time for a full show there. It’s a game changer for us!

The Moot Music Cafe 2/12/21

Heather and I played a livestream on Moot Music Cafe today from 2p-4:30p. We laughed a bunch while playing through people’s requests. I love that we still get random tunes requested which we’ve never played together. “Kate” from Ben Folds Five was one of the more memorable ones on this show for me. Frankie the monkey was, as always, a ton of fun to have on chatting with us. We’ll be back on Moot in March! Woot, Moot!

Moonshine & Ale 2/11/21

Live Band Karaoke went well tonight! It was really cold out, but people still showed up to sing. Heather played keys and I was on drums (and Greg played guitar). I was glad to have good people singing with us. Heather and I made each other smile all night, and we’ll return for piano bar tomorrow (Friday)!

Quarantine Keys 2/10/21

Wednesday on my QK Facebook livestream was good! I had A good time singing the songs people were asking me for. I had quite a few tunes from the 60s requested. I also had a few 80s tunes. It kind of bounce between the 60s in the 80s for a while, but never hit the 70s. One of those songs that I totally forgot about but really enjoyed playing was “Summer In The City”. I dig that tune!

Rockin J Piano Bar 2/6/21

We did a special show with drummer Joe Resnick in Cedar Park tonight. I brought my keytar and Heather and I swapped between it and the piano all evening. We had a bunch of requests and kept the show going from 9:30p-12:30a. I love working with Heather, and it’s always a real treat to have Joe on the kit. He’s a great drummer.

Live Stream 2/5/21

We both now have in-ear monitors, and this show marked our first night being able to use them together. I picked up Heather’s pair for her yesterday from the audiologist, and we tried them out during Live Band Karaoke on Thursday, but we don’t sing much during that show. It’s a total game-changer! During our stream, we could hear each other perfectly, and it made singing harmonies so much better. We had a bunch of fun requests, and Heather even did a few keytar tunes! One of our regulars, Michelle, asked for “New Year’s Day” by U2, which was exciting for me because it’s one of those tunes I’d listened to a bunch, but never had been asked to play. Such a good song!

Moonshine & Ale 2/4/21

We played in New Braunfels tonight for Live Band Karaoke. Heather jumped on bass and I played keys, Pancho played guitar and Ryan played drums. We had a slightly different crowd than normal, but it was still a good night. Heather and I laughed our way through the night, and we’ll be laughing together all weekend! Tomorrow night will see us on a livestream!

Quarantine Keys 2/3/21

Some nights are just for me. I had a chance to perform my two-hour show on Facebook, but I never really had an audience. That happens from time-to-time, but I used the show to play through a bunch of stuff I don’t normally get to do, including a bunch of ‘50s tunes and lots of New Orleans music. It was a good practice night for me.
