Central Market 2/28/13

Central Market on North Lamar had its grocery carts rocked tonight by Rob Roy Parnell, and I was lucky enough to be one of the band members. Bass, guitar, drums, keys and harp were blended together to make some great blues tunes. I always have a great time playing with these fellas, and tonight was no different. We had a very responsive crowd with lots of dancers. I look forward to performing with Rob again Sunday!

StageIt.com 2/26/13

Even though Ian Lee was injured (get well soon, Ian) and was not able to make the show this evening on StageIt.com, we still gave him a good shout-out during the show. I had a great time with Kevin Humphrey on bass, and Christopher Wallis on the drums. My wife, Christine, really helped us a bunch by being in the control room to run sound, answer the comments feed online, and she worked the video feed for us as well! Sounds to me like she had the hardest job tonight.

Jack's Roadhouse 2/25/13

Floyd's birthday was tonight at Jack's Roadhouse in San Marcos. We had a good crowd, and a good time celebrating Floyd's birthday. Kevin on bass, Chris on drums, and I on piano, were welcomed by the crowd. We had a chance to explain to the people what happened to our guitarist, Ian Lee. We explained that he has injured his hand, and is having surgery in the morning. The crowd was very sympathetic, and everyone wishes Ian well! Will be back at Jack's next Monday, so I hope to see you then!

AJ's Ale House NB 2/23/13

I was joined tonight in New Braunfels, TX by Brad Evilsizer on the drums, and we took an amazing amount of wildly varying request from the crowd. U2, Poison, Madonna, Outcast, Guns & Roses, Beatles, and way too many more to name here. This was my first night working with Brad, and he did a great job not only on the drums, but with some backing vocals as well. Hope to see you at AJ's next time!

AJ's Ale House MF 2/22/13

I took a quick snapshot of the crowd dancing tonight in Marble Falls, while Vince Mejia (on drums) and I performed our show. It was a fairly busy Friday night, and lots of people decided to dance as we played. There were many requests for classic rock tunes, and of course some of the big sing-along songs were also requested!

Triple Crown 2/19/13

Triple Crown in San Marcos, TX tonight was where it was at!!! First, South Austin-Allstars did their rock thang with the energy of a flock of sheep running from a wolf, and they sounded great. Next up to close out the night; us! DanHolmesGroup, featuring the talents of Happy Kevin on bass, Birthday Chris on drums & Sleepy Ian on guitar, led the way for some funk, a bunch-o-Beatles tunes (including guest vocalist Jeremiah Sawyer) & my originals. Thanks to the band for keeping it lively all night!

Jack's Roadhouse 2/18/13

We were Ian Lee-less tonight, which was too bad because we had a good crowd tonight at Jack's in San Marcos. Kevin and Chris played the tunes tight, while I had some fun interacting with the crowd, including a birthday song for a fan. See you next Monday night at Jack's!

Don Strange Ranch 2/16/13

Last night's show with Rob Roy Parnell (harmonica), Chris Wallis (drums), Ralph "Coffeeboy" Ibarra (guitar), Pat Whitefield (bass), Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff (sax) and Al Gomez (trumpet) was in Boerne, TX at Don Strange Ranch for an advertising awards show. The awards ran a bit longer than expected, but we still had time to play a bunch of Rob's music (and some Jimmy Reed tunes) before the night ended. Due to my gig earlier in the day, then having to set up early for Rob's show to play late, by the time I finished, it was about a 14 hour work day for me!

Superfly's 2/16/13

I performed an in-store promotion for The Hill Country Gentlemen today at noon. Jeremiah, Peter, Kevin, Troy and I were all there, happy to play for the people looking through the bins full of old LPs. Superfly's now occupies the spot where Sundance Records used to be, so lucky for San Marcos, TX, there is still a great record shop in town!

Happy Cow 2/15/13

I joined The Hill Country Gentlemen in Hunter, TX for a show at the Happy Cow bar tonight. Kevin sounded great on the guitar, Troy's vocals were solid, Jeremiah's held down the pocket with Peter's drums, and I did my piano thing while the crowd danced! This was my first time at the Cow, and I found out that tomorrow night, they're having belt sander races and a beard competition. Yep, it's true.

AJ's Ale House NB 2/14/13

Before our Valentine's day show in New Braunfels, TX tonight, drummer Joe Resnick quickly tore apart a broken sustain pedal for the piano, and had it back together and working again before I played my first note. The crowd was small, but they were all very much into the spirit of requesting tunes and singing along as loud as they could to a wide variety of songs, many of which I had never played before and didn't know, but I played them anyway. "Just Like Heaven", "Tubular Bells", "Don't You Forget About Me", "Material Girl" and so many more unusual requests went over really well for the crowd!

Triple Crown 2/13/13

The Hill Country Gentlemen performed tonight in San Marcos, TX. We had a good crowd, and they were eating up each and every tune we served them. Troy broke out a new song (while Kevin quickly fixed a string), and we had a chance to jump in and play it with him. Fun night, and it was cool getting a chance to listen to Molly Malinowski perform a set with her band before we went on!

Evangeline Cafe 2/12/13

Woohoo! Mardi Gras in Austin, TX! I had a fantastic time tonight performing at Evangeline Cafe with Chris, Ian, and Kevin. I felt very proud of the fellas after the show. The band was tight and funky, and I had more people than I could count come up after the show to tell us how much the enjoyed our music, which always feels great to hear. We pulled out all the stops and did as much Mardi Gras music mixed with our originals as we could in our hour-and-a-half time slot. Before us, the band Gumbo Cest Soir performed a great set of Cajun music, and right after we performed, Charles Thibodeaux and the Austin Cajun Aces. Then, in between each band inside, outside, another great band was playing, Choctaw Wildfire! To top off a great evening, as I was loading out and talking to the many friends who came out to see us, I was introduced to Marcia Ball who also showed up for some Mardi Gras fun!

Jack's Roadhouse 2/11/13

Lundi Gras in San Marcos, TX tonight was great training for the Mardi Gras festivities tomorrow! We treated the crowd to as much New Orleans rocking piano tunes as we could. Kevin, Ian, Chris and I felt as good as my memory foam mattress! And like my mattress, we made an impression, stuck together, and supported each other. Maybe I should change the name of the band to "tempur-pedic".

AJ's Ale House NB 2/9/13

Wassup, Chris Wallis? Wanna play some drums while I play some piano? I know a couple songs, and they just so happen to be songs people requested in New Braunfels before, so, you know, party! If you don't mind, we'll also play a couple birthday songs for people, or maybe six birthday songs for people, and maybe Time Warp a bit. Is that cool? If we have time, we might play Don't Stop Believing. Chris Wallis, you da man.

AJ's Ale House MF 2/8/13

Drummer Chris Wallis met me in Marble Falls, TX tonight for some sing along piano action. Random tunes tonight make me think that unusual is now the norm, which makes it usual, so it's not the norm, which is the norm so.... Ah, forget it. How unusual you ask? Dave Mason unusual.

AJ's Ale House NB 2/7/13

Joe Resnick and I sang and played a bunch of tunes together tonight in New Braunfels, TX. Lots of random tunes requested throughout the evening, such as AC/DC and Tom Jones. We had a pretty good crowd, and they made the night fly by for Joe and I. Thanks to those who hung out with us tonight!

KOOP 97.1 FM 2/6/13

Today was great, as DanHolmesGroup had a chance to go live on the air at KOOP 91.7 in Austin, TX. Chris Wallis, Ian Lee, Kevin Humphrey and I joined DJs Tom Mahnke and David Cartwright on the 9am-11am show, "Fais Do Do". We performed four tunes to promote our upcoming Mardi Gras show at Evangeline Cafe including "Go To The Mardi Gras", "The Sun Will Rise Again", "Junko Partner" and "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans". I met Tom at an Allen Toussaint concert in Austin, and three months later, here we are on the air together! Ain't life grand?

StageIt.com 2/5/13

StageIt tonight was fantastic! We performed for about 40 minutes for people all over the country, and it was one of our strongest online shows to date. This was Kevin Humphrey's (bass) first online show with us, and he locked in with Chris Wallis (drums). Ian Lee (guitar, violin) stepped up and sang a swing tune, and the rest of the time, we played a bunch of my originals. Join us again on StageIt.com on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm CDT!

Jack's Roadhouse 2/4/13

San Marcos, TX heard the sounds of DHG at Jack's tonight, and fun sounds the were. Ian, Chris, Kevin and I made some funky music together, including a bunch of originals and some favorite New Orleans-based tunes from artists like Lee Dorsey, Walter Washington and Dr. John. I'm enjoying each show I get to perform with these guys. We keep growing as a band, and soon, we'll be enormous.

Gruene Hall 2/3/13

Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX is always a great time. Today did not disappoint! The Hill Country Gentlemen took the stage from 12:30pm-4:30pm for a bunch of fun rocking Americana tunes. The crowd, as always, loved the Gents music and danced a bunch before buying some CDs. Kevin blazed the guitar while Troy sang his songs. Jeremiah held down the bass while Peter hit as many drum fills as humanly possible. I just played the piano and enjoyed my afternoon. Thanks to Christine Barton-Holmes for the great photos!
